Being fully aware that Bangalore is not Karnataka and that the needs of children are over whelming in the districts and rural Karnataka, we are bound to acknowledge the voluntary spirit of women and men in the districts of Kodagu, Dharwad, Davangere, Tumkur, Mysore, Chickamagalur, Haveri, Dakshina Kannada, Belgaum, Bagalkot Gulbarga and Shimoga who have founded autonomous District Councils and invest their time and energy to reach out to children through crèches and other programmes. The Davangere District Council for Child Welfare needs special mention, having been founded as early as 1970 on a solid foundation of women volunteers.
