  Inspiration...

There is a little life out there somewhere who is waiting for you to reach out, to touch, to express your concern. And make a genuine difference.

How it all started...

Lady Lokasundari Raman, wife of the Nobel Laureate Sir C. V. Raman, had a great love for children. In 1955, she set up a library for children in her home. Children who came to read at the library roamed freely in the vast grounds adjoining the house and enjoyed themselves. The little library grew into the state level organisations that is today. Lady Raman was at the helm of affairs of the Karnataka State Council for Child Welfare (KSCCW) for 22 long years.

Though constituted in May 1955, it was registered as an autonomous, non-profit organisation in 1961 under the Karnataka State Societies Registration Act, to provide services for the welfare and development of children and their families. Affiliated to the Indian Council for Child Welfare, stalwarts such as Dr. Sharayu Bhatia and Mrs. Lalitha Subbaratnam, Mrs. Kavery Nadamangalam have held the coveted posts of the Presidentship of the Council.

The indomitable spirit of a woman of a different era triggered the latent generosity and public spirit of many women. They gave their time and skills freely to play key roles in building what the Karnataka State Council for Child Welfare is today.
