Deinstitutionalising Project

Thousands of children spend a major part of their childhood in institutions, away from their families, their communities and all that is familiar. These institutions tend to be regimental, hampering the optimum growth and the all round development of children and fail to prepare children for a productive and fulfilling adulthood in the community.

Established in the year 1994 as a pilot initiative, we have reinstated hundreds of children in their own families and continue to enable several others without families to enjoy family life through adoption, long term fostering and in Group Foster Homes. Skill training programmes have ensured jobs for over 100 institutionalised children. Training government and NGO functionaries to make institutions good enough for children is yet another objective. Our mission is to further strengthen, expand and promote non-institutional strategies in Karnataka so that, for children of marginalized parents and dysfunctional families, institutionalisation will be the last option.
